Key points

  • Wynn Al Marjan Island received the UAE’s first commercial gaming facility licence in October 2024.
  • Opening is now expected in September 2027.
  • The project cost has risen to about US$5.7 billion.
  • It shows long-term commitment to a regulated gaming market in the UAE.

Large investments tell you where a market is heading. The Wynn Al Marjan Island resort in Ras Al Khaimah is the clearest sign yet that regulated gaming in the UAE is here to stay, and that is good news for anyone holding a strong category name like lotter.ae.

The licence

On 4 October 2024 the GCGRA issued its first commercial gaming facility licence to Wynn Al Marjan Island. The resort is a joint venture between Wynn Resorts, Marjan and RAK Hospitality.

What is being built

Plans include 1,530 rooms and suites, 22 villas, 22 restaurants and lounges, a theatre, about 12,000 square metres of shopping, a spa, a 7,500 square metre events centre and a beach.

Timing and scale

In August 2026 the opening date was set for September 2027, with the project cost rising to about US$5.7 billion. Reports say the resort could create up to around 9,000 jobs.

What it means for brands

A resort of this size brings international attention, tourism and marketing activity to the UAE’s gaming sector. As more licensed players enter the market, competition for clear, memorable names will grow. Brands that secure category-defining names early will have an easier time standing out.

A growing market needs great names.
